Reasons Why You Need Faith in Your Life
“To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.” — Thomas Aquinas
We live in strange times. Currently, our world is grappling with the notorious Covid-19 virus that has taken scores of precious lives and pushed several more into all sorts of financial and emotional crises. Human activity has increased the earth’s temperature to a dangerously alarming level, due to which we’re losing biodiversity and harming ourselves in the process. In such tumultuous times, when nothing seems to make sense anymore, only the power of faith can help us stand strong and face the challenges life throws at us.
Here’s why you need faith to live a content and prosperous life.
Helps You Find the Silver Lining in a Problem
Our minds are incredibly powerful. They can be used for achieving numerous constructive goals but can also go to waste if not nourished with goodness or abused. When you face a difficult time in life, such as a fatal disease or losing a loved one, your mind tends to move away from positivity. In an instant, you move away from the previous state of abundance to a state of lack. That’s where faith in God comes to your rescue. It replenishes your soul and mind and takes attention away from your problems. It also helps you focus on the bright side of the story and makes you find solutions for your problems. If it weren’t for faith, you’d remain engulfed in misery and never be able to bounce back on your feet.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
Whatever Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger
The Bible has a powerful story called the Book of Job. It’s about a man called Job who was a faithful servant of God. The story further states that one day the devil visited God to discuss Job’s faith. The devil reasoned that Job was only faithful because he had been granted numerous blessings in life, including a loving family, money, and respect. The devil proposed that he would turn resentful if God took any of those things away from Job. God agreed to the devil’s suggestion and started taking things away from Job. Throughout the trials, the astute man lost everything that he had worked hard to acquire. However, he remained faithful. As a result, God restored all of Job’s material possessions and even multiplied them. This shows that you may face the worst in your life at times but never sever your ties with faith. Ultimately, you will emerge victoriously from your troubles.
“Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).
Faith Helps You Discover Your Purpose in Life
Going through all the ups and downs of life can truly take a toll on your physical and emotional health. Had a terrible day at work where your boss yelled at you and refused to give you a promotion? Even a single such interaction can make you question your entire existence. At times such incidents can even push you to take the drastic action of ending your life. When you think your life has lost all meaning, faith offers you a helping hand. When you firmly believe that God is your one true Guardian and will always guide you in the right direction, your life begins to change dramatically. You see doors opening where you previously thought were only concrete walls. Everything in life is far easier to deal with when you have faith.
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8).
